To all those that pass this way Missy was a good dog Missy passed away 7th September 2018
With heavy hearts we advise our listening community, that former presenter Rolf Proft passed away just prior to Easter.  We remember Rolf as a beloved presenter at the station, and his programs were widely regarded.  At one time, Rolf was hosting four programs a week, including ‘Classics for Beginners’ on Friday evenings, ‘Bits ‘n Pieces on Monday evenings, ‘Welcome To My Pad’ on Sunday evenings – incorporating his German program with Luise Mock from 6pm to 7pm – then from 10pm Rolf played old radio theatre shows on ‘Rolf Proft’s Alpine Radio Theatre’.

Over the years, the station received many emails from near and far, about how great Rolf was on air, and we were lucky to have such a great presenter.  Rolf had a diverse knowledge of music, and presented programs that were entertaining and unique for the station. He was always keen to fill in where needed, and was a very willing volunteer.  At Outside Broadcasts, he loved to grab the roving microphone, and get out among the crowd and interview stall-holders and buskers. RIP Rolf, we are very lucky to have the memories of Rolf’s contributions to Alpine Radio. Rolf’s dog Missy, until she died in 2018, was a fixture at the station and the station’s doggy mascot.

Alpine Radio is preparing a tribute program for Rolf, invoking some of our favourite memories of Rolf and some of the music that he loved to play. If any of our listeners have particular memories they would like to share, please contact the station by emailing your stories to
